Sà-wàd-dii khâ! Welcome back to my blog! Today, we're diving into a unique story about chance encounters, deep conversations, and unexpected inspiration. Imagine sitting in a cozy coffee shop, lost in a favorite book, when someone nearby strikes up a conversation, leading to a fascinating exchange of experiences and life stories. This is a moment that makes us pause, reflect, and sometimes even dream a little bigger.

    Grammar focus

Grammar Focus: Reported Speech with “ว่า” (wâa) - “that”

In Thai, “ว่า” (wâa) is often used to introduce reported speech or indirect statements, similar to how we use "that" in English. When reporting what someone else has said, thought, or asked, “ว่า” (wâa) links the main clause with the reported statement.

    Examples:

    เธอบอกว่าเธอชอบเที่ยวรอบโลก

Ther bàwk wâa ther châwp thîaw ràwb lôk

(She said that she enjoys traveling around the world.)

    เขาถามฉันว่าอายุเท่าไหร่

Khǎo thǎam chán wâa aa-yú thâo-rài

(He asked me how old I am.)

    ฉันคิดว่าเธอเป็นคนใจดีมาก

Chán khít wâa ther bpen khon jai-dii mâak

(I think that she is a very kind person.)

    แม่เล่าว่าฝนตกหนักมากเมื่อวานนี้

Mâe lâo wâa fǒn dtòk nàk mâak mûuea waan níi

(Mom said that it rained heavily yesterday.)

    พ่อบอกว่าเราจะไปเที่ยวพรุ่งนี้

Phâw bàwk wâa rao jà bpai thîaw phrûng-níi

(Dad said that we will go on a trip tomorrow.)

In each example, “ว่า” (wâa) is used to introduce the reported part of the sentence, making it clear that the speaker is relaying someone else’s words, thoughts, or questions.
