Thai Listening Practice: Honeymoon in Thailand

This upper-intermediate listening exercise follows a couple planning their honeymoon trip around Thailand. You will hear natural Thai about travel plans, island hopping, and public transportation. It is a great way to practice catching details in longer sentences while picking up vocabulary for trips, schedules, and everyday decisions.

Watch the video first without reading anything. Then come back and check how much you understood against the script below. Pay special attention to how the speaker links events together using transition phrases.

Grammar Focus: หลังจากนั้น (After That)

The phrase “หลังจากนั้น” (Lăng-jàak-nán) means “after that.” It is one of the most useful connectors in Thai for linking events when you are telling a story or describing plans. You heard it in the audio when the speaker talked about going to Bangkok after spending a week on Koh Chang.

Here are more examples to help you see how it works in context:

เราไปดูหนังกัน หลังจากนั้นไปกินข้าว

Rao bpai duu năng gan, lăng-jàak-nán bpai gin khâao.

We went to watch a movie together, and after that, we went to eat.

เขาทำการบ้านเสร็จ หลังจากนั้นเขาพักผ่อน

Khao tam gaan-bâan sèt, lăng-jàak-nán khao phák-pòn.

He finished his homework, and after that, he relaxed.

พวกเราจะไปเที่ยวทะเล หลังจากนั้นจะกลับบ้าน

Phûak-rao jà bpai thîaw thá-lay, lăng-jàak-nán jà glàp bâan.

We're going to the beach, and after that, we will go home.

ฉันต้องประชุมงาน หลังจากนั้นจะไปเจอเพื่อน

Chán dtông bpra-chum ngaan, lăng-jàak-nán jà bpai jooe phûean.

I have a work meeting, and after that, I will meet my friend.

Comprehension Questions

  1. When did the couple get married?
  2. Where did they decide to go for their honeymoon?
  3. How long did the speaker spend preparing for the trip?
  4. How much time do they plan to spend on the island?
  5. Why does the speaker want to ride the skytrain in Bangkok?

Practice Tips

  • Watch the YouTube video once without looking at the script. Write down any words or phrases you recognized.
  • On a second watch, follow along with the romanization. Notice where the speaker pauses between clauses.
  • Try retelling the honeymoon plan in your own words using “หลังจากนั้น” to connect the events.
  • Quiz yourself on the vocabulary. Cover the English column and see how many you remember.
